Ian: My shift from the welding industry to IT industry

#HumansOfSymph is a series where we feature the great minds behind our company. Today, let's get to know about Ian Natividad, our resident Full-stack developer, and his story of how he shifted from the welding industry to the IT industry.

Brief History

"Before I became a developer, I replaced the lights of airplanes during my OJT. A year later, I worked as a Technical Sales Engineer where I trained equipment users and clients to use a machine that uses ultrasonic waves in order to determine defects on a weld. I realized that I wanted to follow my passion, which is to develop websites. So I quit and applied to a software company, I got accepted as a front-end developer, but was trained for a month. Before that, I was doing web development as a hobby but I had no knowledge of what the industry was like. Unfortunately, I got laid off from that company due to the pandemic, I needed a job to support my family. I self-studied software development for a year and applied for my dream job again. That's where I discovered Symph."

Why Symph, Ian?

"I discovered it while I was randomly browsing Facebook. I didn't know what it was about at first, but when I read more about Symph on their website, I knew this company was for me. I applied and Albert (one of the founders) emailed me I got accepted, it was the best day of my life! It was really surreal and I'm forever thankful they gave me a chance. "

What's a day in the life of a full-stack developer in Symph?

"When I wake up, I start the day by joining a kick-off sync, an internal activity in our team where we take turns answering The Question of the Day. While I'm not working, I self-study on the tech stacks I want to learn and improve."

We're looking for awesome developers to join our team! Find out more.
