Pres: The first Data Engineer of Symph

#HumansofSymph is back, and today we’re highlighting Pres, our Data Engineer!

Who is Pres?

“Hi, I'm Pres. Outside of work, I've got a bunch of interests that keep life interesting. During my downtime, I love reading, gaming, watching series, and photography. I'm keen on history and documentaries. I’m a fan of quiet moments, but also value quality time with friends.

I love journaling, even though most of my pages are empty. Being a multipotentialite, someone who finds joy in various interests, I feel like I could fill up those empty pages of my journal.”

Before Symph

“I've experimented with building websites, marketing, video editing, to selling stuff online. I'm always up for exploring new places and tastes. While I was still a tech newbie, I’m always eager to learn.

I started as an Electronics Engineer, then a twist of fate led me to a Java boot camp and eventually, data engineering with SAP BODS. Although it was tough starting from square one, I came to understand that my role was closely connected to data engineering. It was an unexpected shift but one filled with continuous learning and growth.”

Joining Symph

“I joined Symph thanks to my husband’s stories who was a previous project manager there. He loved Symph's collaborative culture and flat organizational structure which got me curious. Here, everyone has a voice, and decision-making is a shared responsibility. This resonated with me, and I became the first Data Engineer on the team. This position continuously pushes my boundaries while providing an environment that fosters my personal and professional growth."

A Day in the Life of a Data Engineer

“My role includes managing data warehouses, optimizing data pipelines, and crafting intuitive data dashboards. I also design and create dashboards for effective data visualization, a contribution that supports informed decision-making. When need be, I work closely with the clients and project teams in developing functions for data migration to achieve project goals. Every day is about balancing technical expertise and learning new things to keep our data processes efficient and reliable."

Becoming Google Cloud Certified

“I was humbled to become the first Google Cloud Certified Professional Google Workspace Administrator in Symph. When Symph announced this opportunity, I eagerly seized it, grateful for the resources provided for certification. The experience was unexpected but enriching. It’s not just a personal achievement; it has expanded the ways I can contribute to our team and clients. The certification has enriched my skill set, enabling me to transform business objectives into tangible Google Workspace solutions."

Takeaways

“Reflecting on my career journey, being adaptable is crucial, especially in a fast-changing tech world (and economy!). Continuous learning is also a valuable skill we need to have. Setbacks have consistently provided opportunities to acquire new skills or deepen existing ones. Moreover, I've learned the importance of collaborative decision-making."
